CNJPUS TEXT
Japanese artist Ryo Shimizu created this massive typographic installation “CNJPUS TEXT” (about 15 feet by 41 feet), imagining what a hybrid of Roman and Chinese characters would look like. This is also a commentary on how the Japanese language borrows both Chinese and Roman characters, and the negative effect appropriation has on the cultural history of Japanese people. Needless to say, it’s a stunning visual, that wouldn’t have been nearly as effective at a smaller scale.
